Selecting Management Method and Device Type

Updated over 3 months ago

KiwiCloud supports different enrollment methods depending on whether the device is a GMS-certified device.

GMS device

These devices use the GMA enrollment method.

Features:

  • No need to pre-install any apps.

  • When powered on (new or factory reset), the user can tap the welcome screen 6 times to enter the QR code scanning interface.

  • Scan the enroll QR code with the device to complete registration.

Once enrolled:

  • The device is managed using Google's Android Management API (AMAPI).

  • The system automatically installs the ADP software.

  • The KiwiCloud App(KCAPP) will be installed by default.

Non-GMS device

These devices use KMA or IMA registration methods. They must have the KiwiCloud App (KCAPP) installed or pre-installed, and the ADP agent will not be installed automatically.

How to distinguish between GMA, KMA, and IMA device types in KiwiCloud—and what preparations are required for each?

GMA stands for Google Managed Access

● A registered Android Enterprise account is required

● Authorize the Android Enterprise account in System Management > Android Enterprise

  • On first boot, tap the welcome screen 6 times to enter QR scanning

● The device can be managed without pre-installing KCAPP, but directly managed through ADP software

KMA-KiwiCloud Managed Access

Device information needs to be imported into the KC management console

  • Before device registration, the KCAPP needs to be pre-installed in the device's ROM

  • On first boot, KCAPP will auto-launch and complete registration

IMA - iMinKit Managed Access

  • An iMin Admin syncs device ownership from the iMin-KC system to KiwiCloud. Devices appear under Device Registration > Pending Management in an inactive state

  • The iMin Admin manually or batch registers the devices

  • Once registered, Institution Admins can manage the devices

  • No KCAPP installation is required; devices are managed via the legacy IoT interface

  • Older iMin devices with updated ROM + KC SDK can be upgraded to support KMA management

  • For iMin legacy devices below Android 14, it will be managed by iMinKit Manage Access(IMA)

  • For all iMin devices above Android 14, it will be managed by KiwiCloud Manage Access(KMA)

  • For all GMS devices above Android 11, KiwiCloud can manage across different brands with Google Manage Access (GMA)
